Submission Guidelines

The drill we follow at Treehouse for every contributor has three steps after we decide on an idea: outline, rough draft, final draft.

The outline is nothing crazy, just one sentence descriptions of each point and then a list of the references/links you're going to use. We recommend also copying and pasting important quotes from those links or paraphrasing very quickly why you want to keep it in mind for your article.

This just allows the editors to see if there's anything we can suggest to strengthen the article. Also makes the writing process much easier because nearly all of the research should be done at this point. After that you can go nuts on it until you get the rough draft done.

As far as length goes, don't worry too much about it. Most people's tolerance for articles are usually in the 750 - 1200 word range, but we're not afraid to push something lengthy if it's good stuff. Usually, we're able to estimate this in the outline stage.

There are no deadlines for the outline or rough draft, but they must be done. The deadline for final drafts of all content need to be turned in by final draft deadline date for the month. A list of these deadline dates can be found under Publication Dates and Deadlines.

We will also need a brief bio (one paragraph will do) and a head shot. Feel free to be as creative as you want.

Publication Dates and Deadlines

Treehouse magazine is published on the first Monday of every month. The October issue is the inaugural issue of the magazine and will be distributed free of charge and should be suspect to the largest audiences. Treehouse will also be providing a Summer 2005 Digest that will incorporate all features and tutorials published on Particletree between June 2005 to August 2005 (estimated to contain +150 pages of content).
