Purchasing Treehouse

For those of you who didn’t catch it in this months “From the Editors” section, we will be stopping Treehouse publications for an unknown amount of time. When we publish the magazine, we want to make sure we have enough time to dedicate towards it so that our readers get what they are paying for. For the next few months, we won’t have that time. Until then, we are evaluating different ways of distributing the magazine (ie: quarterly, web based, etc.). When we make our decision, we’ll be sure to let everyone know.

All purchases on this web site are of past issues. The 3 and 6 month packages will buy the months stated in their description. 3 and 6 months subscriptions for future issues do not exist because we are unsure of how future issues will be handled. Again, when this option opens up we’ll be sure to let you know. Until then, thanks to all of our readers who have kept this going, and we hope that we can bring your more great content in the near future.

What's up with 3 month subscriptions?

We’ve been asked a few times what is going on with 3 month subscriptions. Why can’t March, April, and May be bought? Well, we are currently restructuring the way Treehouse works, and after the April issue some changes will take place. Since that is 1 more issue away, we have to phase out the current subscription program.

Unfortunately, the only way to get the March and April issue is to buy them individually, or to buy one of the current packages that contains them. We apologize for any problems this may cause you. In the near future, we will give you more updates about the changes coming to Treehouse.

UPDATE : To give everyone coming back to renew their subscriptions a fair deal, we have lowered the last two individual issue prices down to $3 for the next two weeks. Sorry for the confusion everyone.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at support@particletree.com.

Changes for the New Year

Hey everyone, we’ll be making a few changes starting with the release of next month’s issue. The first is that we’ll be releasing the January issue of Treehouse on January 9th instead of January 2nd. As much as we’d like to release the issue on the first Monday, we’ve decided to be realistic about our limitations considering it’s the holidays and that we’ll be moving out to California on the 3rd. The change of date is just to ensure that we deliver the best publication we can and to make sure our remaining time with our family and friends in Florida will also be of quality and good times.

The new year will also bring a change in prices to the individual issues. Packages and preorders will remain the same, but individual PDF issues will be sold at $5 an issue after January 9th. We feel the price increase for individual issue sales will help provide more value to our packages and preorders and hopefully help us carry additional costs that we see coming in the new year, not to mention stay competitive within the market. Until then, please feel free to take advantage of our current prices and let us know what you think about the changes.

December is Here!

There is a strange sensation stirring in our chests. Either we’re infected with something alien or a new issue of Treehouse must be out. Since I can’t remember making out with any “face-huggers” recently, I think it must be the latter.

This issue is our third iteration through the process and we think it???s our best issue to date. We???re sporting two new ideas in this issue: demo screenshots and conversations.

Tutorials are now accompanied by screenshots of online demos in action. In addition to providing some nice eye-candy, we think they help illustrate ideas and concepts for readers who prefer to print out the publication.

Inspired by the work done over by the folks at Born Magazine (http://bornmagazine.org) we???re trying out a new format for one of our interviews. Basically, we???ve asked two web professionals to interview each other about their experiences in the industry. To help kick things off right, the venerable Dan Cederholm and the honorable Jon Hicks stepped up to help us out. It turned out to be a lot fun and I???ll expect you???ll see more of these in issues to come.

It's Coming

We know there’s a good number of you waiting patiently for the November Issue to go live and I want to assure everyone that it’s definitely coming out today. Our team had to take a last minute field trip to Boston this weekend and so we’ve been working remotely for the last few days finishing Treehouse on our 12 inch laptops (eh). Anyway, we’re working on it (furiously!) and making sure all the stuff on the backend is going to work flawlessly for securely transporting it. Thanks again for being patient and I can’t wait to see everyone on the flip side.

If It's Not Done in 1 Week

We???re serious about what we do, but it gets rough if we can’t enjoy ourselves. We try to make light of any problems that come up because they usually turn into opportunities around here. So here’s a memorable sequence of events that happened recently that we???ve been teasing Ryan about for awhile. Because of it, we’ve been quoting 1 week intervals to each other whenever we can.

Early August

Chris ??? ???Guys, we can use Payloadz for electronic downloads???

Kevin ??? ???Cool???

Ryan ??? ???No, lets not start this off lazy, you always want the lazy way, let me build a degradable ajax shopping cart for digital downloads. If it???s not done in 1 week, we???ll use Payloadz.

Mid September

Kevin ??? ???Ryan, can we beta test yet? Wasn???t it supposed to be done in a week? What???s the hold up, it???s just beta.???

Ryan ??? ???You???re a designer, not a programmer. You wouldn???t understand.???

3 days before launch

Chris ??? ???Ryan??????

Kevin ??? ???Seriously man???

Ryan ??? ???Almost there. Just putting on the polish???

1 day before launch

Ryan ??? “Finished!”

Kevin - “Finished?”

Ryan - Yup, now all I have to do is test it in Safari.

3 hours before launch

Ryan - Man, I hope this thing works.
