First off, I have to say that Iā??m a big fan of the magazine. I genuinely enjoy it, I think itā??s well written and designed, and this November issue shows a great balance of topics from design to code to business. Great stuff.
That being said, I also need to say that the copy editing is lacking in this issue. Now I donā??t happen to know how this issue came together, if it was really rushed, if Elizabeth didnā??t have enough time to really proof everything, etc. And Iā??m sure that she is generally a very talented and capeable editor. But after stumbling across one typo or misspelling after another, itā??s really getting a bit distracting, and itā??s beginning to ruin the magazine for me.
Again, without knowing what the production situation is for you guys, I feel kind of bad making this comment. Maybe this isnā??t even Elizabethā??s fault at all. As mentioned above, maybe she was rushed through the job. But regardless of the circumstances, I just feel that if you are going to ask people to pay for a product like this, your quality standards need to be a little higher.

Mike - Thanks for the feedback. We appreciate honest comments that are constructive. I would not blame Elizabeth for typos you find. Up until now, the magazine has been finished off of hard work that people are putting in for free. On top of that, our own problems getting the publication schedule ironed out have resulted in some steps being rushed.
With that being said, we did put more emphasis on copy editing this time around. The spreadhseet full of corrections we made before publishing is impressive. Also, the time spent proofing this issue was more than double the first issue. While we are still making mistakes, we can only hope to get better. We just need to proof more ourselves, and give Beth more time to look over it.
Thanks for speaking your mind, and hopefully you’ll stick with us for a bit as we try to improve.

No sweat, Ryan. I know you guys are just getting started and we can only expect better and better things to come in future issues. That’s really why I wanted to point this put in the first place, so that you guys are aware of the frequency of the problem and can iron it out at this early stage in the growth of the magazine. I used to work on a magazine myself with a small crew, and over time we continually refined the process and dramatically cut down on typos and other errors. I’m sure you guys will do the same. It just comes naturally.
And of course I’ll stick with Treehouse to see how things progress. I’m already looking forward to the next one.

I haven’t purchased this issue yet but I do plan to in the future. However reading the free one I found a few errors as well.
It would be nice if we could submit errors once the magazine has been published and then once a week or every two weeks you re-published the error corrected version for us to download. Would also help for people later on who purchase copies late.
Anyway I think this magazine is a great idea, and I really enjoyed reading the first one, some of the topics in this one also interest me so if I can get my paypal account working I will purchase it.
Keep up the great work guys!

Is it just my spam filter, or do you not send out a notification to subscribers that there is a new issue?

Howie - if your name is on the mailing list you will get notified. You can sign up on the right column of any page, and soon you can one click sign up from your account. You are not the only one this was not clear to though, so we will try to make it more obvious when the next issue comes out.
